I'm not going to be too quick to pass judgment here since I don't know the full situation, but I don't feel comfortable supporting what seems to be a for-profit printing project (at least when it comes to this reserve round) wherein the actual author isn't receiving any proceeds (which, asking around, I'm pretty sure is the case). If you want to recover whatever expenses you've personally incurred, it's probably more appropriate to present this as a charity event & explain where the money is going and why.
Go ahead and hand off my seat to the next person - I'm just going to leave my invoice unpaid, as I don't see any way to cancel it.
Pretty sure they aint turning a profit. They explained they had some unexpected costs that occured when shipping the original batch. PLUS they mentioned extra $ from the reserve list batch would be used for jumpstarting their next printing project which they confirmed to be none other than the massive goliath itself. "Project Horizons"
Not having to wait over a year or more for the next project to start is well worth paying a little extra for my reserve copy. If any of you think they are doing this for profit I am sure you are all mistaken. The only profit being made from these books are the scumbag scalpers that are selling them on ebay for $300+
One guy on here admitted to buying 50. FIFTY, copies of the book just to sell on ebay, which is very upsetting and much more deserving of your dislike and hate than the project team.
(Also id recommend making a buy limit for the next project of only a couple books at most to prevent scalping next time. If people want to help their friends get a copy they can just sign up their friends email for them so they get the invoice. And for those who claim it needs to he a "gift" they can give their friend the money to pay for the invoice.)
Thanks for everything you guys do printing team. CANT WAIT FOR PROJECT HORIZONS!!!!
I've seen someone trying to sell some FO:E books for $600 + shipping. hate it when people do that.
In my personal opinion $79.99 + shipping isn't that bad when you think of what you are getting and some of it is going onto another project.
so in a nutshell I agree with what you are saying.
Yeah but that's just the thing. Some of it is going onto another project.
I don't think it's fair for people who just want FoE to pay for people who will want PH, especialy if they are not interested in other stories themselves. Especialy since they will have to pay again for it later...
Paying a little extra would not be a problem. It was somewhat our fault if we didn't sign up in time for the original shipping and had to sign up for the reserve list. And even if it's to give a little something for the team who runs the project, it may not be legal but I think they'd deserve it.
However here the price went double of what it was. There was no warning of it when signing up for reserve, and I do not think THIS MUCH is justified. I wouldn't mind a $10 price bump, I can't say the same about $45. Especialy if you are not a US citizen and already have the huge shipping cost to deal with. A book that originaly costed ~65€ ended up being 105€, and I did not even check if I had some exchange fees because of the currency change. And I find it hard to swallow with "early backers have to have an advantage" (being 100 % guaranteed of getting a book, in the amount wanted, was already a nice advantage imo, getting it earlier too...), and "we have to cover some expenses because we broke some stuff" (which is not the fault of people who ordered the book, and I'm sure what broke did not cost so much that $45 per reserve order is needed unless it's the whole garage that needs to be rebuilt). And supporting an incoming project we may not be interested in is also not correct ; if anything this should have been covered with a donation campaign with the advantage of an early pre-order for bigger donators.
I did pay for the book ; I waited too long to just miss it for reasons like (rather have it for double it's price now than five times its price in a few months) even if I was very close to not be able to afford it ; but I am not too happy with this price bump nobody was really expecting. It is way too big in my opinion, and should have been made clearer earlier. I have been hoping for a price decrease & partial refund ever since the reserve infos went out and people started rightly complaining about it ; but sadly it won't happen it seems. But I hope the team will handle things better for whichever print is next. I may be looking forward for the other stories, but definitely not if this kind of event is bound to happen again, unless it is carefuly explained and early enough to avoid breaking some people's dream of finaly getting the book at the last minute.
