Sacrafice: Virtue or Vice

Post by Party_Pony0326 » Mon Jun 19, 2017 8:06 pm

I'm sure this sort of post has been made already, but I just had the feeling (being relatively new to all of this) to express my feelings and final views about this book. And I'll just keep calling it a book because I received mine in the mail (loving it!!) so it makes more sense to me. Naturally I was a little skeptical at first this being a combination of two completely different fandoms and having not been a Brony since the show started, but a good friend encouraged me to give it a shot, and I couldn't have made a better decision. This book is deep. I oftentimes forget that I'm reading a fanfiction written by an anonymous Brony who obviously had waaaaay too much time on their hooves. (not hating, just saying) It really captures some of the bigger plot points present in popular literature. A compelling story, intriguing flash backs that are conveniently worked in through the use of magical Memory Orbs, clever comedy, and an underlying theme represented in the virtue of LittlePip that should inspire all of us. Of course though, I don't believe in some of the drastic measures that sacrifice can cause somepony to take, but tis the way of life in the Equestrian Wasteland. At the end of the day the true message rings forth, and the whole book is a rollercoaster joyride that never skips a beat. Definitely a Virtue.

Na, it's great to hear about new people discovering the fandom and this iconic fic. Glad to hear you enjoyed it so much, I've been in the fandom since the break between seasons 1 and 2 and must have read this story maybe 20 times... Still love it. You should check out two of the other FoE stories:

Murky Number Seven. Which is about a slave and is set entirely in Fillydelphia which was, in my opinion, one of the most important and interesting parts of the original.

Project Horizons. Which is very similar to FoE but goes a lot deeper into the history of the war and the reasons behind the apocalypse.

There are others but those two are the ones I'd recommend getting into next. Both are a lot longer than the original but expand the world so much they are definitely worth it.

I am also fairly new to the FoE fandom (I first read the original only two years ago). I finished Murky Number Seven in December and can say it is right up there with with the original. It's just... so good.

I have yet to read PH, but I'm gonna give it a try. I've read some mixed reviews about it so I'd like to make my own opinions about it. Debating if I want to wait for the books to be printed before I read it.

I'll definitely be sure to give them both a try then! I was unsure if I should since they weren't written by Kkat, but you ponies have sold me! Also, thanks for being so welcoming!

Project Horizons is so good. I started reading it after finishing the original FoE and couldn't put it down til I was done. If you think the original is deep, then you'll be blown away with deep PH is. So many emotional rollercoasters.. Just be aware the story is also a lot darker than the original. And longer.

Also Blackjack is best pony :bwalk:

I'm excited to try it out then! I really enjoy stories that go deep into the lore instead of leaving it up to interpretation that can easily differ based on who's reading it. Can't wait to give it a try after I finish my second reading of Fallout Equestria!

I think Pinkeyes is right up there with PH and the Original, as well. I've read it at least five times and I'll still cry super hard at quite a few points in the story. So good. That scene in the brothel, I swear, one of the saddest things I have ever read...

Thanks, I'll be sure to keep that in mind.
Honestly I wasn't the biggest fan of the scenes in Fallout Equestria, but they kept it to a minimum that I could stand. I just don't think those things are necessary to tell a good story. But I think I'll give it a shot regardless.
