Re: Alternate Dust Jackets
Those are some amazing pictures you've chosen, and a very sleek layout. Now I'm no longer sure which jackets I want. Well, it's not a bad problem to have, right? One thing you might want to look at, though, is the sizing. If the "Properties" windows of my viewers are correct, you and Dragmaister have made your covers ten inches tall, while ProfessorPat recommends 9 ¼. Still might not be a problem, but might be a good idea to make sure the folds are still in good places after scaling them down (I somewhat doubt you're planning on having jackets that are three-quarters of an inch taller than the books). Less importantly, I think they might be in a RBG color profile, rather than CMYK. Oh, and see my disclaimer in my last post about tone. Sorry about well-intentionally tearing your submission apart as well!
EDIT: I really should stop posting things at night. At best, I talk extensively about things that matter to just about nobody; more often, it's something that I should avoid talking about, or that I should phrase quite differently. The worst part is that I do recognize that I probably shouldn't send whatever it is, but do so anyway. I am sorry, both of you.

Re: Alternate Dust Jackets
The first one loads automatically to 10" tall for me, but the second one brought up the dialogue box asking for import options, which I wasn't entirely expecting, but it actually makes things easier, though that's assuming you're using a manipulation program rather than just having them printed.WovenTales wrote:Those are some amazing pictures you've chosen, and a very sleek layout. The first one looks off with the spine being too narrow when scaled and other things overlapping where they shouldn't (enough that I'd worry, more-so than in the second as I'll explain later), however the second one is almost perfect when opened to the original 9.25x21 of the template (actually 20.9xx but that shouldn't make much difference). I say almost because the liner notes do go into the red zone on my templates, which was designed to have the cover image going all the way to the edge where the red meets the white. This could end up being problem free though as that area was just based on guesses for bends and they could be smaller than I imagined they would be, though it may be wise to play it safe and move it that 1/16" or so that it does overlap that area of the template.
They do all open to 10" tall though, so you may want to look these over once more to be sure everything was as you had planned for it to be.
They do open to RGB as well, so this should probably be changed to call these print ready, though any PNG designs you find will be RGB as well and the printers will likely not have trouble, it's just that it's easier to see what you should be getting if it's already in that profile.

Re: Alternate Dust Jackets
All right!
Thanks for pointing out all the mistakes I made... Can't fathom why I messed up the first vol cover that way... Anyhow. the pdf's are now in CMYK and they should scale properly to correct height (and width) without a need to downscale. All this printing stuff gives me a headache, really it does (and this is not the first time I'm dealing with printing stuff).
Oh yeah, I intentionally did so that the flaps and spine goes slightly into the red area. Especially the spine since it has that whole spine mosaic image thing going on and I want to make sure the picture is not affected by the bends of the paper, ie. the cover image starting too soon.

Nice covers. I really like the logo you've put on the spine.WhatPayne wrote:Here are the Dust Jackets I made together with Dragmaister:

We decided to make Dust Jackets of our own because we felt that none of the existing one were what we really wanted for our books, even though they looked good otherwise. These were a bit of pain to make tbh, but overall I like what we achieved.
I'd like to thank ProfessorPat for creating proper templates for these Dust Jackets.
EDIT:Fixed the size and converted them to proper CMYK colourspace.
I'll add a proper picture here of the jackets on the books when I'll get them printed out.
I think I've spotted a couple of errors in the text on your dust jackets though.
Volume 2. "Velvet claims each of her trait..." <-- should be traits.
Volume 4. "His vas combat experience.." <-- vast
"The sound of heavy gunfire and barrages of missliles" <-- missiles
"ensures that a rentless..." <-- relentless
"Wo knows what sins..." <-- Who

These have been fixed now, thanks for pointing them out. (It's always funny how one can proof-read something dozen times, and brains just say "Yeah yeah, it's fine, move on" )Pugs wrote: Nice covers. I really like the logo you've put on the spine.

Hopefully they are starting to get closer to being error free by now.

I think the "vas" combat experience might still be in there.Dragmaister wrote:These have been fixed now, thanks for pointing them out. Re: Alternate Dust Jackets
Just thought I'd mention that volume 1, while it would work just fine, has differently sized liner notes. One is smaller than the other (larger cover, not smaller area folded inside the book). Might want to even that out, but like I said, it wouldn't cause any issues.

That was derp on my part, I'm so sorry. Somehow I uploaded a weird version which did not have that part fixed... I swear I remember fixing that one before.WovenTales wrote: I think the "vas" combat experience might still be in there.

If I get a brain aneurysm as the result of this project who can I hold responsible?
(It sould be alright now.)

Hmm I never knew this site existed until I found a link to it on the Book facebook page a few days back.
Anyway. I am the creator of these jackets,

And honestly, I don't care what happens with them. I've given the .psd files to the mods back on the book Facebook page and have since dropped under the fallout books radar so I know nothing of current progress since that last incident.Pugs wrote:These were the dust jackets I personally preferred. I like these ones better because they use actual FOE pictures for volumes 2 and 5, as opposed to random city scenes. But I do prefer the design of the inner flaps for the official ones. Maybe I'll use some of my meager photoshop skills to combine them for my own dust jackets.

Thanks for popping in, and many thanks for your blessing on using your dust jackets!RandomPinkPie wrote:Hmm I never knew this site existed until I found a link to it on the Book facebook page a few days back.
