I'm pretty sure they've mentioned WePay a couple times, but I'm not sure if that's set in stone as of right now.

Unless that was mentioned in IRC(which I'm not following), you're probably confusing this with the originally planned second printing which didn't happen.

It may have been IRC. Sorry, I thought I'd seen Zemming mention it, but maybe not.

I know she gave her permission for the first version, but now that you are reformatting the book, it would be common courtesy to ask again.

Yes. Contacting Kkat was one of the first things we did. We have her permission and her guidelines for reformatting.

scootayay wrote:2)What's the difference in formatting between the original printing and your version?
2b)What font, font size, line spacing(, words per page), margin etc... are you using. Indentations and/or new lines to separate dialogue? Style for memory orbs? Would be cool if we could see a few sample pages. (If it isn't too early for this.)

The primary font is Adobe Garamond Pro in 10pt, with 1.15 line spacing. The majority of the text has 1/4" first line indents instead of new lines to separate paragraphs. We have redesigned both the gear section breaks, and the memory orb section breaks based off the original version.

I put together several sample pages here, which demonstrate most of the major formatting.

Although Google renders that, If you want to download the files, the windows version is here, and the Mac version is here.
The Mac version just has an extra blank page, since preview won't render a 2 page spread correctly without it. They are intended to be viewed two pages at once, like you will see the book. So please use whatever version shows up correctly on your computer. (It should look like this, not this).

Currently we are looking to use WePay to collect payment, since that's what Past Sins used, and it worked well for them. We still need to discuss our project needs with WePay before we know for certain we'll use them.

I don't know what WePay is but as long I can still pay with a debit card (Like a Key Bank one) then I'm good.

That looks great! All the formatting touches really look cool. That kind of text density looks pretty similar to some other comparable books I have.

I am one of those disappointed that it won't be a 5 book project. If the other printing hadn't been canceled, I'd have my books right now and not care at all if the number changed. However, that isn't the case and I need to go over my options like I'm sure others are as well. I have no qualms looking for a company to print them myself but nowhere can I find the graphics used for the covers as well as the spines of the books; nor do I know the type of hardcover used (I assume cloth, but that's just from looks).

It'd be nice to have that information to help people make sound decisions and perhaps even company names that are printers only (not publishers) since I'd guess it has already been researched thoroughly.

And some numbers because I was curious and bored:

-Harry Potter Series-
~1,084,170 words total in seven books
~154,881 words per book on average
Largest book was ~257,045 words
12 point font in all books except the largest in which it was 11.5
1.25 line spacing

-FO:E-
~620,295 words total
~125,059 words per book on average for five books (old printing)
~310,148 words per book on average in two books (new printing)
10 point font (new printing)
1.15 line spacing (new printing)

For visuals I've attached a pic with the difference between 10 and 12 point fonts with single spacing (which is usually between 1 and 1.15).

Also, I might not be the majority but I'll pay more for more books (which is why with more information I might have to get them printed myself). That's not to say I'm completely uninteresting in this new printing, but I'd really like to price out all my options before committing.

EDIT: And another thing, $86 was a damn good price for 5 hardcover books. Most in retail are between $15 and $20 for a single book.

Here is a screenshot of both the first printing PDF and the current PDF, both scaled to actual size. (I even measured my screen with a ruler, much to the amusement of my friend who wondered what was wrong with me.) This should give a more accurate visual comparison to the first printing.
Using the screenshot, I measured the height of the "M" that starts the first paragraph. The M from the first printing is 29 pixels tall, and the M in the current printing is 28 pixels tall. As best we can tell, we are using the same size font as the first printing.

We are not sacrificing readability to reduce the size of the volumes.

That's what I was afraid of. I like larger line spacing for separating paragraphs a lot more than just indents. Makes the text more readable in my opinion. When there's not that much text it doesn't really matter, but when you have a LOT of text, which is the case here, it reduces the strain on the eyes quite a bit. Couple that with the smaller font size...

I'm afraid not. You are definitely using a smaller font than the first printing, although I don't remember anymore if they used 11pt or 12pt. See this comparison image I made. (The size difference is actually visible in your image as well.)

I'm in the same boat as Fool, if the last printing hadn't been canceled I'd have my books and not really care about any change in numbers. I personally would much prefer the 5 volume version; I'm not opposed to larger books (one of my favorite series, Malazan Book of the Fallen is just plain enormous past book 2 or 3) but... :unsuresweetie:

Anyway, I have to mirror the sentiments of Fool (again), if there is a list of printers, the exact PDF's used and the cover images used for the last printing/the canceled printing plus any other information on the printing that it would be nice to have so as to at least have the option, I'm not opposed to paying a bit more for the five volume set.

Even if I don't order through this group printing I do wish the group the best of luck. :pinkiehappy:

By printing off "Nothingness!" in several different points, I was able to overlay that with a printout of both the first printing, and the current formatting. The first printing uses 11pt Adobe Garamond Pro. I apologize for supplying incorrect information. The difference is certainly more noticeable in your screenshot than mine.
